    About 30 very large-diameter NIBCO® valves — valued at approximately $150,000 — were used in the $7.3-million chiller at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. This massive chiller supports the needs of the entire campus. The new construction project was completed in April 2011.


    The Edge:
    A strong relationship with the contractor and product availability and quality were the driving factors behind NIBCO getting the contract.

    Although the customer wanted to use NIBCO valves for this large chiller project, the products weren’t identified in the spec correctly, so NIBCO’s area sales manager for Indiana and Western Kentucky, Shane Burgess, worked with the engineer to correct the spec. Ultimately, NIBCO was accepted for the project because the valves were available when the customer needed them — and because of the strong relationship NIBCO has built with the contractor.

    As Burgess noted, “Sycamore Engineering is a loyal NIBCO valve user because they know we provide on-time delivery, have a reputable name and offer a great product. In fact, after the valves were installed, there was an issue with one of the valves leaking. I was out there the next day to investigate and two days later we had a new valve on site for them to install. I live five hours away, but the relationship that I have with the contractor and the wholesaler lends me to be accessible at all times.”
